Church Music Curriculum
Bachelor of Church Music - Courses
1- Applied Music --Private Lessons
(12 Credits per Module --4 modules --18
weeks each
)

Four modules are required for graduation.
Weekly application of specifically designed
music course in voice or keyboard.
7- Vocal Training Class
(4 Credits per module --2 modules --9 weeks
each
)

The basics of vocal development and training. A
real necessity for keyboard and instrumental
players as well as vocalist.
2- Performance Group
(4 Credits per module --4 modules-- 18 weeks
each
)

Weekly participation in small groups and in
praise and worship teams. This encourages
and enables students to be developed in
musicianship and the teamwork necessary in
ministry.
8- * Hymnology--The Study of Hymns
(4 Credits per module --1 --9 weeks)

The study of types of hymns, texts, hymn writers
and the great impact of hymns in the church.
3- Music Theory I & II
( 4 Credit per module --4 modules-- 9 weeks
each
)

A foundational study including chords,
harmony, structure and from of music -- the
basics essential for good musicianship.  Some
lab  work included.
9- Praise and Worship Leading
(4 Credits per module --4 modules --9 weeks
each
)

Four modules required for students with a vocal
emphasis. One modules required for all other
students.
Teamwork is an integral part of leadership.
Opportunities for leading the team, choosing
music and an emphasis on a Holy Spirit led life
as a musician. Lab work included for those with
vocal emphasis.
4- Service Playing and Accompanying
( 4 Credits per  module --4 modules --9 weeks
each
)

For students with a piano/keyboard emphasis;
One 9-week module is required for all students.
A study and application of he responsibilities of
the piano/keyboard during th worship service,
accompanying, improvising, solo and more,
Classroom and lab application.
10- Sacred Dance / Music / Drama
(4 Credits --1 --9 weeks)

The Study and preparation of theses dynamic
forms of worship expression in the experience of
serving our mighty God. God's Word comes alive
in dance / music / drama.
5- Church Choir Development/or Church
Drama Development
( 4 Credits per module --1 module --9 weeks)

An overview of the skills of selection music for
graded choirs through adult. Rehearsal
techniques. Music preparation. An overview of
the skills of selecting drama material.
Rehearsal Techniques. Scene preparation.
11- Computer Technology / Music / Keyboard
(4 Credits --1 --9 weeks)

Guided independent study in the technology and
application of the tools to music preparation.
Note: More in-depth study can be done under
the Senor Music Project.  
6- Church Music Administration and
Organization

Part I
: The High Calling of Leadership --( 4
Credits - 1 module  --9 weeks
)
Part II: Ministerial Training ( 4 Credits --1
module --9 weeks
)
Part I: The High Calling of Leadership --9
week course
Part II: Ministerial Training in the structure and
functioning of the music program of the local
church as it relates to the total church vision
and program. Congregation, worship teams
and instrumental development in the true spirit
of worship.
12- Song Writing
(4 Credits per module --2 modules --9 weeks
each
)

The study and application of the marriage of
texts and melody. Students will be writing texts
and melodies. Form and structure will be
covered.
INDEPENDENT STUDY
    ( 4  Credits per module --4 modules --18 weeks each)
    Guided, planned study and preparation in the appointed area. Under the
    direction of supervising teacher. Choose on  from the following:

  • Composition
  • Improvisation Praise & Worship Arranging
  • Drama / Music Writing

    Sound / Media Ministry
    (4 Credits per module --2 --9 weeks each)

    Learn how to support Church services with good sound which includes
    operation of sound / video equipment, sound / video editing, recording,
    tape reproduction, purchasing equipment and the operation of a bookstore.


    Church Music Practicum - Supervised Participation in Local Church
    (4 Credits per module --2 --9 weeks each )

    Done under the direction of supervising instructor. Real time training.


    Senior Paper / Music Project / Senior Recital in Lieu of Oral Music
    Exam
    (* Credits --1 module --18 weeks)

    Done under the direction of the supervising instructor



    * Denotes courses that can be done by independent study under the
    guidance of supervising instructor.

    A non-refundable registration fee of $30.00 is required before initial
    meeting is set.

    Course Costs are $30.00 per credit hour.
    Applied Music and Independent Study sessions are $35.00 per hour.

    Transfer fees from Spirit Fire  School to Evangelical Bible Seminary,
    Payable to Evangelical Bible Seminary - $300.00.

    Portfolio preparation, payable to Dr. Pat Rush (Includes diploma from Spirit
    Fire School) - $150.00.
